Man you gotta get more values in there! I want to see more contrast!
Also use more ref and more anatomy studies will help you.

Yeah, these are just the flat colors. Shading/lighting/detail not present here in any way! I have a rule of not using reference in these daily sketches... I'm trying to get away from being dependent on having models and photos to work from. If I have a reference I tend to obsess over making everything perfect.

Hmm well if you're doing that then I suggest you also get some really basic studies too- shading basic forms can really improve your skills, I know it sucks, but it makes you better really fast.
Plus after you do em for a few times, it starts to be fun!

Exactly! I do plenty of studies in school. Sometimes you have to practice drawing just from imagination.

I think it's kinda crucial to use reference a ton until you can really naturally do without it, it's worth the time.
