Looking good, and good atmosphere in this one too. Reminds me of the Children of Bodom albumcovers. :)
I think this smaller size works best, the figure looks good in full view too but the tree could do with some visible branches.
The couple brush pattern behind him do bring him out of the background but otherwise they look bit plain.

your right, should work on the background.
I usually get rushing once I've gotten my main focal point down.

Same here... Actually that's exactly why many of my drawings have no background at all.
