It's not off-topic, the topic states, flying whale, read my post comment..

the shark is singing, "why can;t we be friends, and has a big highlight in his eye, sharks eye's don't highlight, it's to make him look cute/sad, the diver is attacking him becuase he's curious, also note the scale,
that shark is 12 meter's long, now 1+1 =2 and you see that all the shark is, is a glorified whale.

..not flying, but a play on whale.

think before you vote.

That is a very nice art work, the shark has very good realism and detail about the nose and the dark inner mouth. 8-9 star drawing....if only it matched on the topic.

Not at all man, the point of the site is to motivate sketching. The topic is secondary to that.

The only time I'd say the topic actually matters is on the weekly competitions.

Excellent Helix, thanks for showing us what your capable of.
I know it's not finished and I'm sure it would look incredible with a week of work!
It's great to see some realism on here! Looks great, I think a vote is a vote though, why change his vote? Helix knows the votes are completely subjective and can cope. I hope you don't change my votes if you don't like them... hmmm. 10 cents

As long as people are consistent with how they vote, I don't think it matters. I'd probably vote something higher because it is on topic too because I think it can sometimes be more of a challenge to stay on topic than it is to end up doing what you feel like doing.

I do feel you guys should vote what your gut tells you, if you think it's really bad, or it's way below what I'm capable of, or anyone for that matter, I don't mind, and I can cope, and you guys too, cuz were all ugly and grown up enough! =O

but please take the factors into consideration, 1 hour of work that's so-so to me is already a 5 or a 6 and then the other things like subject, type of art work and style and the general look and feeling of the image matter and count for the other 5 marks..

and 4 hours of work with this image ( or 14+ hours like with the Data image ) means I put shed-loads of effort into the image, so I appreciate every vote and comment, becuase I too need to get better..MUCH BETTER!!! =D

and unless it's Hentai, Furry-Love or any other type of unsuitable image I would never give someone below 4 or 5. ( I mean common! pr0n is one thing, but badly drawn kinkiness is REALLY bad! XD )

I have never changed/deleted a vote in the history of the site until today, and it was only because the voter was confused about the rules. And then, I only changed it to what they said it should be instead.

OKAY an now for the big let down.

This will probably come as a big shock to all here but... It was I that voted a 6.

NOW Allow me to explain:

As I was viewing and making my comment on this piece I was using my laptop touchpad to navigate around and as I moved from the page slider to the starbar I inadvertently double tapped and it scored. Unfortunately you can't vote twice or change your vote once it's done. I would have scored it a 9 but only because you said it wasn't finished. However I did laugh maniacally once I realized what I had done.

Yeah, I was somewhat confused. Who would have ever guessed that the first 6 numbers of a 10 number vote system are basically all the SAME failing grade. I assumed 5 was average, not fail. I also would have thought that a sketch group with topics would require the entries to match said topic. Based on those logical assumptions i voted and left honest, politely worded and very non rude comments.

For that, i was told to keep my "bad mood" to myself and warned that i could be banned if i continued being "mean". In fairness I was also invited to stay as long as i did not cause further trouble.

I will not be staying. I liked it here and I was very pleased and excited to be able to draw for the group again. Today I uploaded my sketch and dutifully made to comment on each persons art. None of my actions were aggressive other then votes deemed by others to be to low and yet I was spoken to/treated as if I was an intentional trouble maker. Never was my intent to be one...and it troubles me to be thought of so.

I don't think I would feel comfortable here again after this so I will be off for good. I hold no hard feelings tho, it was just a mistake. You are all wonderful artists. Keep up the good work. It's been fun.

Hey I respect your assumption! I was kind of under the same belief as you but I view everything as tongue and cheek I try not to get ruffed up about things that really are just arbitrary anyway. Artist types can be very sensitive and with my sardonic sense of humor I end up stroking others the wrong way all of the time.
Although your resignation was artfully penned it would be a true shame to actually have you leave because of my
silly mistake.
Man I'd hate to have accidentally tapped a 1 or a 2! Perhaps there should be a rating scale or something near the voting stars and way to change your vote if the inevitable were to happen again.

At any rate a bit of wisdom to take to heart is to never take the written word at face value. There could always be an underpinning of humor that is not translated without speech.

I've said things here, there and everywhere that were outragous, embarassing, off, and kept coming!
Right Ben? And Ben still loves me, I know he does. Everyone here loves me and they love you to!
Keep posting, I like your work alot!
Trust me, Helix wouldn't be the first to get a 6 and be pissed about it. Yes, it's happened to me, and I went to Ben, "Ben, why'd you give me that low score? :(" But he hadn't. It didn't matter, I was embarrassed and felt like, "Gosh, he's out there thinking I'm a dick..." I digress, my point is, alow your underbelly to show. Mistakes get made, tomorrow is another sketch!? Stay and keep the channels of communication between US going, yes you are part of US now, it's an indellable mark.
Helix has gotten 6's before, I know he'd rather you stay than have a good score if he thought about it.
