Description: This one in for Andrews little girl. This is from one of Norways most beloved fairytales. Prince Valemon the Polar Bear King. I kept it black and white so all you fathers and brothers can print it out for your princesses to color in. Maybe I will make a whole comic about this story during christmas, it's so nice. Some parts can be found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVbc_goDy8A the violin in the intro is a tradional Norwegian instrument, I really love it.

I like the bold lines. This is one of my favorites by you. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the text at the top, but I can get over it.

I wasn't sure either whether I would put the text there or not, or to keep it with this much white. Making drawings is one thing and layout another. I want to keep trying and experimenting, but I have noticed with me that things end up better with less lines than with more.

I first made one drawing after the famous Norwegian illustrator Kittelsen as you can see here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-Bear-King-Valemon
That one turned out quite sad, then watching the movie on youtube decided I would draw her lying on the bear, which is much more intimate. The story is very much like the French fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. Tenderness taming the untamable, loving the unlovable.

Story book fantasy, nice!
I like the graphic qualities and composition, I'd almost expect a star shining above her and her wistfully watching it while she's being carried! What's the name of that fairy tale by Kittelsen?

AH, I finally read your whole comment and watched several of the pieces of the polar bear king!
Thanks, very nice, why is it in English if it's Norwegian?
Where could I get that on video I wonder, now I want to see the whole thing, and my kids'll love it!
My wife is very into fairy tales, she has a vast book collection and is a bit lost in fairy land herself... ;) Ever read the light princess by chance? There's always quite a bit of philosphy embedded in alot of fairy tales actually. Sometimes it seams like a fine line between fairy tales and science fiction!
How fitting to bring The Polar Bear KING into DSG with all our king this and that subects.
Thanks, salute!
Now this piece has alot more depth, That is really cool the way you think about your pieces so much before you do them. I'm just the oposite, I'm highly reactive and flow with my pieces from the word GO, thinking, but already drawing by the time I get my idea. Gotta get that timing down better... THINK, then draw..? !:)
