hmmm, that looks very acrylic, how did you make this?
what is the white thing in the middle?
I can see the bridge and a guy on it,
the rest looks like some abstract painting?

you have give it a mood of mistrery without making it too dark, I like that.
I just keep looking at it, well done.

Hi thanks for your kind comments. I was worried about this being the kind of thing you want on this site.
Firstly, the white thing is a waterfall, so I guess that didn't really work.
Ok this is how I made it. I started by making a blank canvas and made it black, accidently, which I fill white with the paint bucket tool, but this worked out ok in the end. I found reference material from my own stash. I started by line drawing a cliff and bridge. I then used layers in different blending modes to add colour. At this point I hated it and nearly gave up. I decided to make up some textures by making my own brushes. (I use CS3). I used the brushes to make all the elements of the picture. I do paint on canvas and paper using acrylics, water colour, oils and draw as well. I have experience of printmaking and darkroom photography as well. So I guess I can't help but work the same way as I would making a traditional artwork. I use layers and I love texture. I didn't stop there. I thought my finished (abandoned lol I had enough) work was washed out and lacking contrast. I returned to CS3 image drop down and played with levels and curves and then faded them using multiply blending and then I think I used linear dodge and faded it til I thought it was right. I went to filters and used a fresco filter which I fiddled around with until I liked it. I put a frame around it and said that will do ...I could have kept going. I might of used the shadow highlight feature too (I like it). It took me about 3 and half hours.

oh I faded the fresco filter too and used a blend mode, probably linear dodge...I love the fade feature (CS3) in the edit menu.

I think it is the contrast in brightness and color, that gives it the misterious feel.
You can see the poles in front and the waterfall and the blue stuff (sky).
and then there is more things in this more gray/brown area,
and it seems that it is kinda hidden,
and you have to look closer to make up what it is.
I definately like the mood of it.

Thanks for your detailed explaination, I know very little technical things myself.
But it's good that you don't give up and do the stuff you like to do,
specially when you sit at it for 3 hours.
