It's not about how good you are
it's 90 percent effort and 10 % bullshit.
The longer you keep trying, the easier it gets and the more you can concentrate on other things.
for instance, If you master drawing, then you can concentrate on colour..
In my case, I can do B&W but colour is my enemy, simply because I don't think in colour, I think in light and dark.
Your effort is great, What your looking for is to make those lines go away, you know, the lines of the sketch.
when those are one, use lines that are between 5 and 10 times darker than the eare your working on, it makes it more realistic,
remember, there is never just black and never just white, always just under the two values.
yeah i would have removed the lines, however my forte i supose is in linework, so when i go over outlines, they never come out looking right, its somthing ill practice in the future, i had fun working on this one though
Nelix: You got lines, you got form, you GOT colour, quit yer whining! :P ~*
This is rather good, you were obviously trying something a bit different from those 2 masters!
My advise to you would be not to try to match what you see and like in other peoples work, as much as absorb what they're doing and keep doing your own thing. Like, the face in yours is quite powerful, you did your own thing there, increasing the angle and using the color more dramatically. It looks to me like they were rendering photo's they found, I wish I could do that as well as them to. (sour grapes) But if everyone was a Remrandt like Ben and Helix, there wouldn't be any Miro's, Matisses, Picasso's or Alice Neils!! There may be a few Van Gogh's and Matta's though.. Anyone ever seen Matta's work?
yeah, i mean not using reference will make it come out less great, so why not
and i mean if you dont critisize yourself constantly, youll be content and then youll never get better
since i cant be a jedi or samurai ill put all that honor/force into art
I figure the same, I mean, It is not an easy feat becoming better at something unless your shown what you've done wrong and told how to fix it.
In this art class I attended there was a guy who kept on telling me how brilliant his art is, and how wonderful his style is..
then, when he finally showed me his work, it was a load of shit, not because I found it completely lacking,
but because he made me sick with his incessant bitching about how everyone, including me, was beneath him.
all the while his artwork was substandard and he never wanted to accept criticism.- pfff - That's what I call an epic fail.
Personally, I have no time for deluded or bombastic people, their egotistical flaunting makes no sense.
especially when there is visibly room for improvement.
yeah and the other thing is its about the effort, id rather chat with somone who had awful sketches but had a good additude, trying to improve, than some primadona
I kind of like the lines, gives it a comic book feel. Also, the loose brush strokes are nice because they look deliberate and in the right place. That's one thing I cannot manage to do right myself.
