I discovered Roberto Matta a Chilean surrealist a long time ago and love almost everything he does. He was quite succesfull in his own time and is very interesting, I've emulated some of the qualities he has in his work in mine through the years. Warning, some of his work is a bit mature.
Here's a link to a page that has alot of his work. There's also a really nice book out about him with alot of his work that can be found on E-bay I'm sure or at your local library.
